The Villages and the Seasons

Image
It's Thursday 24th March and as we're drawing to the close of our adventure I thought I'd share a few thoughts on skiing through the 2023 season here in Grand Massif.  Of course we've only been here for one season and they tell me it's been an unusual year in the Alps as we've experienced weather conditions which have probably been affected by global warming and climate change.  And that's one of the things with living in this area that life is very affected by weather and natural environment and we have certainly noticed and experienced lots of changes.  One day it can be fabulous sunshine and the next a very heavy downpour. Prior to our arrival in the area the Grand Massif had hardly had any snow and I’m told the slopes were pretty un-skiable through Christmas and New Year.  If you've read our other blogs you will know that we had a massive dump of snow, continuous for about 3 days, just after we arrived in Samoens in January and that this was then fo...

Lots happening in the Alps this week

First of all I think I should say we've been really super busy the last week and the weather has been very changeable too so apologies if this blog post is a bit rushed.  We had about a week of torrential rain interspersed with hot sunny days and occasional snow showers as well.  It feels like all four seasons and one night we had thunder and sheet lightening that lit up the whole sky too.  It's not so easy to sleep when the rain is beating down on your motorhome roof and your bed is only about 2 feet below it!! 😧😨😩 At the weekend we took the second of our free skiing days that came with our season pass for Grand Massif. This time went to Saint Gervais (see some pic above of the Homer in the aire we stayed in) where we met up with Tim and Chrissy from New Zealand and Australia respectively - although they both now live in Como in Italy and have recently discovered the joys of motorhoming.  Some might remember Tim and Chrissy as new friends who live an amazing life...

Some thoughts on being adventurous

Image
I've always called this trip an adventure rather than a holiday.  It's about experiencing life and different places and trying things in a different way.  Of course you may do these things during a holiday too but I tend to think of holidays as specifically relaxation and taking a break from normal life.  So having set off with adventure in mind I thought now that we are entering the latter weeks of our time here I would share some thoughts and experiences related to being adventurous.  Hopefully they share with you some of the ups and downs. By the way, if you're interested, I read a great book which Melle bought me for Christmas  Adventure Stories for Adults .  I really recommend it as not only does it give some great ideas but also, I think, shares the spirit of adventure.  It was so good I finished it before we even set off and now Melle, having read her own books, is enjoying it too. So one of the things I've tried to do is different things every ...
