Getting Started
So, after over two years of thinking about it and planning, here we are less than two weeks away from setting off for a three month adventure in the Alps. There's still loads to do and given that Homer has recently developed a number of rather worrying extra features, including the inability to start the engine, there's also loads to worry about as well. But I'm sure we'll get those things sorted, after all how embarrassing would it be to say "actually we've decided it's too much effort and so we're not going to bother"? I'm not sure either my or Melle's work would welcome us asking for our jobs back - actually Melle's workplace probably would welcome her back but my job has now been filled so that's not possible even if I did want to do it. Which I don't.
Why, you might ask, do we want to give up our security and go off to the Alps with no thought about what we'll do after that, what's it all about? Well for me it's about trying things out and seeing a bit more of the world and getting a bit of a new purpose. In a way, and as people often say, it's about re-finding myself - working out what I want to do with the rest of my life, not letting it just drift by. I do love travelling with Melle and doing it in our Hymer motorhome (Homer - see pics attached) is also pretty cool for all sorts of reasons, and we do love the Alps, especially skiing under blue skies - so that seemed like a good place to start. The pic attached of Melle in ski attire is the last time we went skiing which was at Glen Shee in Scotland, which was bitterly cold and not as lovely as it looks most of the time by the way, we lasted a day up there. So that seems like a good place to start, to strip back to the basics and explore what living in the mountains in the winter is like - but this time in France in the Alps where we will have to contend with learning the language a lot better too. This blog intends to share some of our thoughts and some of our experiences as well and will also complement a similarly named You Tube channel where we'll post some videos. Including from the new GoPro that I got from work as a leaving present. Lots of people, friends and family, seem to want us to share our experiences so hopefully this will be a way we can do that too. Anyway this is just the start and a bit of a practice so I hope you like it and watch out for more in the coming weeks and months.
